GYMNASIUM L.T. STAVROUPOLI
Our school is located in a picturesque village called Stavroupoli in the north of Xanthi, on the mountain Rodopi, by the banks of the river Nestos. The population at the moment does not exceed the 500 people, but in the past it used to be ten times more and Stavroupoli was the financial and administrative centre of the area with many facilities and services.
The beauty of the area is breathtaking. A few hotels welcome the tourists all over the year offering them the opportunity to enjoy a lot of activities such as riding, canoeing, trekking, archery.
In the nice square of Stavroupoli visitors can enjoy a cup of coffee with local delicacies…
…or take part in traditional festivals
There is also a folklore museum and many churches. Five km away there is a Macedonian tomb dating back from the 2nd century BC.
Another landmark of the area is also the colorful train station and the clear waters of the river.
The school has 50 students from 12-18 years old (gymnasium and lyceum). The older …
and the younger ones…
The students learn the basic concepts of all sciences and humanities in the first four grades, while in the last two they prepare for their national exams in order to enter the university.
Students in the school yard
And in the classroom
There are about 15 teachers for all different subjects: maths, computers, physics, biology, history, literature, sociology, philosophy, languages (ancient and modern), music, sports.
Although the number of the students is small, the number of the activities they partake is big.
There is a school library,
an updated computer cluster,
a sports hall inside the building
as well as outside in the open air
a kitchen, where students make international recipies with success…
or less successfully!
Students can be very creative working hard inside and outside the class:
Understanding mathematics through arts

attending the church
or taking part in the national parade
Our school is very active in educational visits:

to visit ancient Greek monuments
to visit a firm
in order to take an interview
to take part in a conference
or to take part in a game with other schools
to travel abroad
to enjoy nature
and all living creatures.
While we are keeping our own identity,
we are proud to be a school open to new challenges!
